Queridos amigos:
Tradicionalmente en Junio celebramos el mes de las Agrupaciones de Rotary.
La primera Agrupación nace en 1928 de un grupo de Rotarios de diferentes clubes con el propósito de aprender Esperanto. Si pensamos en este hecho, precisamente aprender una lengua planificada que pretendía convertirse en el vehículo de comunicación internacional, nos daremos cuenta del espíritu del origen de nuestra organización: la internacionalización de los valores de Rotary.
Hemos llegado a un punto en el que, las acciones y los proyectos de servicio que nos impulsan cada día a aportar a la sociedad esos valores necesitan de nuestra convicción y compromiso .
Nuestra organización tiene que mantener este espíritu joven que nos vincula con los cambios en el mundo. Nuestro trabajo es seguido con atención y es preciso continuar esa tendencia a la transparencia absoluta, al compromiso total, a mantener el pie en el Rotary del Siglo XXI. Los cambios han calado en nuestro ADN desde el inicio de nuestra fundación. Rotary siempre ha sido adaptativo y capaz de saber orientar su rumbo .
Seamos muy exigentes con las personas que se unen a nosotros. La ética no es sólo una palabra, es una forma de vida. La personal y la profesional van unidas a la Rotaria. No hay conductas que se limiten a la vida Rotaria. Es una actitud de vida, un estilo inseparable de ser Rotarios. Esa exigencia empieza en nosotros mismos, en nuestros compañeros de Club, en las personas que nos representan en el Distrito y a nivel internacional. Rotary es un ejemplo a la sociedad, un espejo en el que la misma se refleja. Sólo así nos sentiremos orgullosos de pertenecer a la mejor organización del mundo.
La importancia del Club como elemento sobre el que se construye Rotary es esencial y la única razón por la que existimos como Rotarios, como Presidentes, Gobernadores, sin el Club todo eso no existiría, sin vosotros Rotary y como consecuencia todas las acciones que somos capaces de generar como Rotarios, no serían la energía transformadora que mueve el mundo.
Estamos haciendo acuerdos históricos para nuestro Rotary en España. Hemos sido capaces de abandonar los personalismos para concretar acciones de futuro para nuestra organización. Sigamos por ese camino de transparencia y compromiso con la sociedad. Rotary tiene que seguir brillando como una estrella en el universo y, para eso, es necesario que cada uno de nosotros aporte su energía.
Os animo a seguir trabando hasta el último día y, después, desde el primer día. Los gobernadores somos «seres finitos» y no somos nada sin cada uno de vosotros. Estoy muy agradecido de saber que me lees. Cada línea sale de mi corazón con la fortaleza de saber que no estoy solo, que cada segundo de trabajo tiene un objetivo: Estar al servicio de tu club y de cada uno de los rotarios.
Este año hemos sido capaces de vencer el miedo. Hemos sido capaces de crecernos ante la adversidad. Hemos tenido miedo, no somos temerarios, pero lo hemos superado y entendido que nuestros vecinos nos necesitaban. Hemos estado, incluso, muy por encima de lo que se esperaba de nosotros. No lo hemos hecho por quedar bien o vencer un reto. Lo hemos hecho porque, como Rotarios, esa era nuestra obligación y nuestro compromiso. Ese es el sentimiento que queda y el que reconforta en el trabajo. No entendemos que las cosas puedan ser de otra manera, ni esperar a que sucedan. Hemos buscado la oportunidad, hemos trabajado en ella. Sin duda una buena razón para sentir ese orgullo de pertenencia a Rotary.
Os abrazo en ese sentimiento de amistad y camaradería que nos hace felices, Rotary es esa felicidad que añadimos a nuestras vidas desde la sensación de agradecimiento por permitirnos servir.
Disfruto de mi privilegio y os invito a disfrutar conmigo de Rotary.

Dear Friends:
Traditionally in June we celebrate the month of Rotary Fellowships.
The first Fellowship was formed in 1928 by Rotarians from different clubs with the purpose of learning Esperanto. If we think about this, learning a language that was intended to become a means of communicating internationally, we realize where the spirit of our organization comes from: the globalization of Rotary values.
We have arrived at a point where the actions and service projects that push us forward everyday to provide these values to society need both our conviction and our commitment.
Our organization has to maintain the youthful spirit which links us to the changes in the world. Our work is followed closely and it is essential to continue with the pattern of absolute transparency, total commitment, to keep Rotary standing tall in the twenty first century. Change has formed part of our DNA right from the very start of our foundation. Rotary has always adapted and been capable of knowing how to steer its course.
We are very choosy about the people who join us. Ethics is not just a word, it is a way of life. The personal and the professional go together, united, in Rotary. There are no acts that are limited to a Rotarian life. It is a life attitude, an unseparable Rotarian style. This requirement starts with ourselves, with our club colleagues, with the people who represent us in the District and at International level. Rotary is an example to society, a mirror in which it is reflected. The way we can feel proud to belong to the best organization in the world.
It is essential to recognize the importance of the Club as the element from which Rotary is constructed, the only reason that we exist as Rotarians, as Presidents, as Governors. Without the Club none of this would exist, without you Rotary would not exist and as a consequence all of the actions we are capable of generating would not be this transformative energy that moves the world.
We are making historic agreements for our Rotary in Spain. We have been able to put aside personalities to cement future actions for our organization. We will continue this route of transparency and commitment to society. Rotary must continue to shine like a universal star and for this it is essential that every one of us contributes our energy.
I encourage you to carry on working until the last day and then go back and do it all again. As Governors we are «finite beings» and we are nothing without each one of you. I am very grateful to know you are reading my words. Every line comes from the heart, from the strength of knowing that I am not alone and knowing that each second of work has an aim: To be of service to your Club and to each and every one of the Rotarians.
This year we have managed to overcome fear. We have been capable of growing in the face of adversity. We have been scared, we weren’t frightened, but we have overcome and we have understood that our neighbours needed us. We have been even more than what was expected of us. We have not done it to look good or to meet a challenge, we have done it because, as Rotarians, that is our obligation and our commitment. That is a feeling that remains and reassures with this work. We do not understand that things could be any other way nor do we wait for them to happen. We looked for the opportunity and worked at it. Without doubt a good reason to feel that pride of belonging to Rotary.
I embrace you in that feeling of friendship and camaraderie which makes us happy. Rotary is the happiness which we add to our lives with a feeling of gratitude for allowing ourselves to be of service.
I enjoy my privilege and invite you to enjoy Rotary with me.
